PTA Newsletter October 2012

Dear Parents,
As you are aware, Our Lady's Girls' P.S set up a PTA in October 2011 and we have had a very enjoyable first year. On behalf of the PTA committee we would like to thank Stephen Smyth for being our Chairperson for the first year. We have all worked hard and have had great success. We raised a total of £3499, which was a fantastic amount. In addition we raised over £300 for the Northern Ireland Hospice charity.
The events, which included our Bingo night, Easter ballot, School Disco and our Summer Sausage Sizzle were all hugely supported by the pupils, parents and teachers and we all really appreciate that support. Most importantly the children, the teachers and the parents enjoyed all the events and it brought a lovely atmosphere to the school.  
We have worked very closely with Miss O'Dowd to put the money to good use. We have paid for the new text messaging service which is now up and running and proving to be an asset. We have also agreed to pay for the new website which was professionally designed and is now live. There is also an interactive white board due to be purchased in the New Year, which will help the children immensely. In addition we have recently purchased two outdoor notice boards which will be used to inform everyone of our fundraising ideas and our plans for the future. These boards will be erected over the next few weeks.
On Wednesday 17th October the PTA had its first AGM where we had an election for Chairperson, Treasurer and Secretary. Deborah Kelly was elected Chairperson, Paula McCurdy Treasurer and Lorraine O'Hare Secretary. In addition Marie Morgan Vice Secretary, Clare Bowen as Vice Chairperson and Mrs D Boyle is to continue as the Teacher representative , who I might add works with the committee and does a lot for the school, much of which not a lot of parents are aware. We also have parents who go to each meeting and help at every event. These include  Christine Noble , Christine Mc Donnell, Anne Maire Mc Cann and Jean Minney. At the start of this academic year we welcomed a few new parents and the PTA always welcome any parents who would like to join us at any time of the year. We would also like to acknowledge the parents and other volunteers who came and helped at the Sausage Sizzle, as well as Patricia the cook who gives us the loan of the hall, who made the tray bakes for the Coffee Morning and who cooked hundreds of sausages and burgers at the Sausage Sizzle. What a job!
We are currently collecting any CDs or DVDs, in good condition and in their original boxes. Any donations should be sent to the school before 30th November. Alongside this we are collecting old mobile phones and ink cartridges. There is a recycling bin at the front office where the children can leave these. This bin will be in school all year long. These items will all raise money which can be used for buying resources for the school.
The first PTA event will be the Children's Halloween Disco tonight and we know the children (and adults!) will all have great fun.
Please continue to support your PTA as we are working to raise money for all of our children. There will be lots of events throughout the school year so come along and join in.
